The daruma is a Japanese good-luck doll with a round, weighted base. Knock it over and it rocks straight back up. Tradition says you paint in one eye when you set a goal and the second when you reach it. Ours has one eye filled in, because the long-term plan is still running.

It is the most honest description of long-term investing we know. The market will knock you over seven times, sometimes more. The holder who gets back up the eighth time is the one who collects.
